TURNOVER GUIDE

Let’s discuss what workflow is best for you before starting. Questions? Email: benfederman@gmail.com

*All files for color turnover must be delivered at least 24 hours prior to the scheduled session unless otherwise agreed upon in advance. Delays may impact scheduling and project timelines.

Camera Source/RAW Workflow (Preferred):

The following must be included:

    1. Media:

      1. Required camera-original clips should be consolidated onto as few drives as possible.

      XML/AAF

      1. Video sequences should be edited down to the absolute minimum number of tracks.

      2. Commit all multi-cam edits if used.

      3. Un-nest all nested sequences.

      4. Must contain full source file names that match the raw material.

        1. For Feature Length

          1. Feature-length programs should be broken up into shorter sequences (reels) of about 20-30 minutes each. Reel breaks should fall at scene boundaries, but not over transitions such as cross dissolves.

          2. Each reel should have a video/audio 2-pop exactly six seconds in, with first image occurring exactly eight seconds in. Each reel should also have an audio/video end 2-pop exactly two seconds after the last image frame.

      5. Be Aware

        1. VFX, filters, stabilizations, unusual transitions and most composites created in Premiere will need to be recreated or handled as special cases during the online editing process.

      Project File

      1. Should be simplified to include relevant sequences only

      Video Reference File

      1. ProRes Proxy export of each sequence.

      2. Please include any repositioning in this reference.

      3. Please include source timecode and file name burnin if possible.

Preconformed ProRes
Workflow:

  • Export the file as a ProRes 4444.

  • Please also include a matching single-layer XML or EDL that includes source file names

    1. Video Reference File

      1. ProRes Proxy export of each sequence.
